All about KIRBY:

Kirby (カービイ Kabii?) (1980) is a recurring fictional character designed for Nintendo games.
His first game came out for Game Boy games and has had every Nintendo system. Their special ability is to absorb enemies and copy their attacks. The ability to copy the attacks of the opponents is not the character Kirby gave up the second installment of this game, at the beginning only the absorbed and released in a star shape. Another feature is that it is the most hungry for all of Nintendo. His ability to copy attacks gives you a great ability and power to face any threat, and makes a formidable opponent, and also has unlimited powers come from the hidden Warp Star. He is very popular in Japan and in parts of U.S. Europe and South America.
Masahiro Sakurai, who worked for HAL Laboratory, was thinking of making a game for the Game Boy handheld console for beginner players that anyone could pass. Sakurai had to design a character for the game and came up smiling make a sphere as a prototype, but the designers liked both the "sphere" that ended up being the game's protagonist. The area was named "PoPoPo" and the game that would appear to be called "Twinkle PoPoPo", later to be renamed the character "Kirby." It was not known why he changed the name to the character, had various theories which include your company name comes from the Corporation Kirby vacuum cleaner company and hence its ability to suck in his enemies, had also rumors that honor his name is Nintendo's legal counsel, John Kirby of Latham & Watkins LLP who Nintendo saved a claim of copyright infringement on Donkey Kong filed by Universal Studios, the latter proved to be fairly certain as Shigeru Miyamoto has stated that when looking for a new name for the character in a list is encountered with that of "Kirby" and found it funny that the character had some connection with the lawyer, and likewise another factor in this decision was that in Japan is often naming characters with smooth sounds cute but thought Miyamoto "Kirby" was so hard sounds was amused to put this name to the pink ball.
Kirby ventured into the Game Boy which achieved great success, but being a black and white console will not know the true color of Kirby. Sakurai wanted the character to be pink, while Shigeru Miyamoto wanted it to be yellow. Finally, the idea won and Kirby Sakurai was shown pink on the cover of the Japanese game, but in the U.S., Kirby went on the cover without any color and completely blank. It was not until the release of Kirby's Adventure on the American continent that Kirby finally came out pink.
